Recreation Program Coordinator

Title: Recreation Program Coordinator

Department: Parks and Recreation

Reports To: Parks and Recreation Director

Salary Hiring Range: $44,645 to $55,808

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, this role entails overseeing youth sports programs, coordinating part-time staff schedules, providing administrative support, and managing the supervision of part-time employees for the Town of Youngsville.

This position necessitates overseeing staff, delegating tasks to subordinates, prioritizing workload, and working evenings and weekends. This position will frequently engage with coaches, parents, and the public concerning all youth activities. This position is not exempt from the overtime pay requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and provide youth recreational activities.
  • Manage contracts for youth recreational activities.
  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate volunteer staff, part-time, and seasonal employees and interns.
  • Maintain all youth programs within budget limitations; keep accurate records/statistics and completes necessary paperwork; report all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary actions to supervisor.
  • Compile and monitor volunteer records and statistics, participant waivers, attendance records, participant assessments, progress notes, evaluations and individual program plans as needed for youth recreational activities.
  • Develop and implement periodic needs assessments to ensure program needs are met.
  • Assists departmental staff with park projects which includes researching, obtaining quotes, working with vendors etc.
  • Serves as public contact for youth programs.
  • Develop and manage sponsorships for youth sports.
  • Research and purchase equipment and supplies needed for programming.
  • Ensure youth program marketing materials are created and distributed.
  • Supervise part-time employees.
  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist in planning community events.
  • Operates a computer, telephone, copy machine, and other types of office equipment.
  • Performs other related duties, and as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation programming; knowledge of department policies and procedures and current recreation trends; ability to recruit and train volunteers; ability to take the lead on certain assigned projects; ability to think strategically and work as part of a team; Must be able to formulate ideas and communicate them in clearly in an oral, written and concise manner to various levels of management staff and the public; ability to be Customer focused: Dedicated to meet internal and external expectations and requirements; gets information first hand and uses it to make improvement in services; ability to promote a culture of teamwork through collaboration and communication; ability to generate creative and innovative solutions to manage organizational issues and opportunities and maintain and promote ethics (i.e., honesty, integrity, respect, fairness and caring) in all conduct; ability to use all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift and/or carry 50 pounds. Work involves operating a motorized vehicle. Exposed to occasional cold or inclement weather for outdoor programs and events.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid North Carolina Driver’s Licenses and the ability to maintain a clean driving record.

Position requires CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 6 months of hire date.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS

During youth seasons, nights and weekends are required. Typical hours are noon to 9PM on weeknights, and 8AM to 2PM on Saturdays.

When this position is out of season, hours are flexible but must overlap at least 4 hours a day with the director’s primary shift; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

REQUIRED:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate is likely to have a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation and Leisure, Recreation and Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related degree with at least 1-2 years of experience in recreation programing.
